Timber Museum

This "living glimpse of the past" is set in 1.5 hectares of park like grounds on State Highway One (3 kilometres south of Putaruru). Extensive displays record and illustrate the history of the timber milling and logging industries which are an integral part of life in the South Waikato.

The Museum features:
  • "Tuck & Watkins Sawmill"  The original skids lead into the mill building with a comprehensive display of chainsaws, hand saws and saw blades, as well as the original milling equipment.
  • Taupo Totara Timber Cc Ltd Order Office built in 1907, it was moved from Putaruru to its present site in 1977, to house a pictorial history of milling companies of the Central North Island.
  • Totara Log 2,000 years old. Weighs 20 tonne  Placed on display in 1997
  • "OUR  Heritage HALL"  It, houses the Acclimatisation  Society's display of native birds, flora and fauna, as well as the magnificent collection of DACTYLANTHUS
  • The Wood Art Centre of New Zealand which some of the most beautiful work in wood-turning anywhere in the world can be seen.
  • Trophies and Exhibits of axemen and sawyers from our nations best.
  • The refurbished Arapuni Church
  • Audio Visual room with historic films available to view.
  • Conferences Room for Conferences or Events,
  • Tea Rooms and Picnic area.
